I got a Radio shack Pro-84 scanner that comes with a frequency counter-like feature (called signal stalker) when I tried it out using mi old cb handheld to see if it would display the correct frequency it got it perfect every time, but when I tried it out with mi FRS/GMRS handheld it would sometimes be off a little bit, I used several radios to make sure it was not the radio. Any possible ideas of why it gives me slightly-off reading on the Frs/GMRS band? |

Yes at UHF the radios will almost never be right on frequency

Yeah i've noticed that the frs/gmrs radio's seem to be all over the place as far as bleed over, and when it comes to recieving with a scanner you can start recieving the signal as much as 25khz off frequency, depending on how close you are to the scanner, if you move at least 200 feet away you'll find that it is almost dead on every time, but then of course you need another person to do that test. but yes it is the radio's and not your scanner. |

Hummmm .....
Sounds to me like at 25 khz away it IS your scanner .
Unlike a good 2 way radio scanners are not made to take large signals and have poor signal rejection and overload so more than likely your just getting too much signal in to a scanner and that's why you can hear it all over the place.
If I fire up my 2 meter HT in the room with my PRO-2053 it goes nuts ..... but move it 40 foot away and the scanner is happy and shows it to be dead on.
Now thoes cheep radios are not going to be dead on frequency but not more than MABY 4 KHZ off .... and on a good 2 way radio you will not even know they are there at 25 khz.

I know this is off topic but does any1 know of any software that allows you to transmit data over FRS/GMRS radios? |

soundlink / SignaLink makes a box as does several others that allows you to connect your computer sound card to a radio ..... ANY RADIO ..... as long as you have a way to input sound into the radio and tap off the receiver audio output
