I have a cobra 2000 and a amp i hooked up a palomar elite 500 base amp power supply combo.everytime i key the mic it squels and i have the mic turned down .what would be the reson 4 this?

are ya running a power mic?
if so dont turn it up high.only about 1/8-1/4 open.adjust the rest with mike gain.
is the radio hooked to the poersupply?
if so try hooking into the wall
did ya check swrs?
is all your jumpers good?
has the radio been peaked or tuned in any way?
