Can anyone tell me if a Texas Star 500 and a Polamar 250 are different inside for 10 meter and 11 meter ssb or do they have to be changed and tuned by a tech to use on either band? Thanks John |

the dx500 will work fine on 28.500...as high as i've ever tried  . never tried a palomar 250, but it'll probably be the same. most 'CB' transistor amps will work fine 26-30 mhz, give or take, with wattage USUALLY dropping at the ENDS. some may even go all the way down to 80m, transistor amps used to be made fairly cheaply & were pretty broad banded. not sure how effective CB amps are that are that broad. |

Thanks Patzerozero I ended up getting the three amps I asked about TS 500, TS 350, Polamar 225. Do you know where I can go to find info or user manual on using them? All I know is to keep the DK down on the TS,s but do I keep it on rec. while just listening and switch to amp while trans. and receiving or do I have to keep switching back and forth when talking and receiving? Also the small bulb behind the meter does not light up on either amp when powered up does it only light up while trans. or is the bulb burnt it looks ok by eye? How do I change the bulb inside the buttons each amp has one out? Are the bulbs 12v ? Sorry about all the questions but I am new to amps and I want to put together a strong emergency radio I wont be able to use them daily because neighbors are to close. I really enjoy this forum its a big help for newbies. Thanks again Patzerozero for the info. John |

sent you some info, j-b-g.
just leave it in line, press 1 of the power switches for it to be on, or leave it off, as long as dead key of radio is correct, doesn't matter, on or off. the relay inside the amp knows when you key up & sends signal through it,and lets receiver come back when you unkey. |
