I have been toying with the idea of trying one of the Channel Guard filters so I am looking for opinions from people who have actually installed them and used them.I am not looking for info like well a guy I know has one and it works great but actual owner operators comments pro or con.

i only tried the channel guard about 4 years ago, based on bruce's recommendation, so maybe it's just me . i took the one OUT of my grant XL in my truck. it was there for awhile, and i seemed to like it. then one day i had some wierd buzzing/humming noise. a different radio in the truck didn't have the noise. i tried all kinds of fixes til i took the channel guard out-the noise went away. email to lou franklin & he said it sounded like the CG was installed wrong & WAS amplifying signals, something it shouldn't do. i told him it worked fine for a year. well, maybe it went 'bad', was it subjected to any severe front end overload possibilities? maybe, painkiller's mobile @ 25kw @ less then 1 mile away across open water BUT i have been closer without the CG installed before & since with no problem.....changed it anyway. it worked for a few days then did the same thing. last one i tried gave an odd tone to the bleedover it was suppressing, so much so that i couldn't stand to listen to it, so i removed it. one of LF's emails described what to expect DIFFERENTLY then what is written on the website. after several emails, his final suggestion was 'so don't use it'. fine way to assist a staunch supporter of him & his products. i have put a few into other radios & NOT experienced that problem. my particular radio the problem? must be. i have however noticed the 'odd tone of bleedover' a few other times, but not always. i wonder if it could be the CG itself, as i bought a boxful in one shot-maybe a bad batch of xtals, or other part? this was ALWAYS in an mb8719 chassis using the 7.8 mhz filter. only have done a few exports with 10.695 filters and never noticed any problems....other then, how much did it really help? broadbanded export chassis.....they're already not as 'tight' as a 40 channel cb. the ss158 is probably an ept3600 board with 10.695 IF.

REALY ......

Mine works quite well now in some radios the NB has a problem but not in my grant. If you have to trade off 3 "S" units LESS of splash to a bit more noise it will do it
