hey i got my "new to me "99 supercab f150,i want to get my cb radio hooked up in it i think i have decided where/how i want to put the radio ,but now i have to figure how/where to mount the antenna and how to run the coax into the cab(out of sight and safe)on my 92 i was able to run it in through the rear slider inside the plastic trim at the edge of the headliner over the drivers door down the left windshield post and down under the dash where it would connect....
the dilemma 99 has NO rear slider and NO plastic trim along the top of the doors/edge of headliner and even if i were to run it in through the upper corner of one of the rear doors i may damage the seal and possibly crimp/cut the coaxso i am trying to get away from the "on the roof" magnetic mount
i have a fiberglass tonneau cover so any type of mount in/on/or around the bed is out of the questionthey are stock fiberglass "sport mirrors"
so i am looking into the "hood channel mount" type that attaches to the inner edge of the fender and im hoping i can run my coax from there under the hood and through one of the rubber grommets in the firewall if i can help it i want something that looks like a clean install i really dont care for the ball mount to the side of the body or a roof mount just wondering if anyone has ever used one of these any comments...concerns?
i am also open for other suggestions as to another way to mount it |

Pancake I use the exact same mount on the front of my 2007 Ranger and get 1.1 on channel 1 and 1.3 on channel 40 look to see if you can place the mount where the 2 edges of metal meet on the quarter panel and you should have no problems.

well its hard 2 say with the coax run without
actually seeing the truck.but the BEST place
for any antenna is deadcenter of the roof.
as for coax i had know most people run them behind the rearwindow and under the cab weres theres usually a drain plug?

I have found that Car Stereo places do Clean installs of Radio
and speaker wire runs.
I'm sure you could find one in your area that could help you out with some kind of install of the Antenna/Coax Run.

thanks for the replies... i have ordered the bracket and i will do as i said mount on the inside edge of the drivers fender and i did find a grommet that is easily accessible from outside that already has 1 wire running through it for the remote car starter so i will put my coax through there i just hope its easily accessable on the under-dash end of things...a friend of mine who has been into cb for years and just recently went ham..did however point out a concern of his is picking up engine noise since the antenna is @ the front of the vehicle and the coax would be run through the engine bay ..but i told him i would try it and if there are issues i will have to relocate the antenna...and with any luck the weather will warm up a little here because thats another factor working against me temps between 20-35*f lately sometimes with snow or rain sometimes not but with no garage to work in i am freezin my caboose off out there with my doors and hood open trying to install |

I mounted an antenna on my 98' GMC Sierra the same way and had no problems. It worked very well. Just be sure you ground everything well.
Move along. Nothing to see here.........
