$300 for a 2995dx is a steal if it was new. Did it work when you got it? What have you done to it if anything since it worked? Check the squelch,rf gain. Does the meter move when someone else talkes? If so, sounds like a speaker issue. Something in the headphone jack or the speaker wire pulled loose inside. The wires are bundled tight from Ranger and it could have pulled loose inside.

i am just looking for all the info i can get,the radio is from a guy in texas i should have it by thursday or friday.he said it looked brand new and he could not get it to receive. but he said it had good output power over 150watts,he said it did not have a scratch on it.i will keep it for a spare.i think the 2990 has a better built board.i really dont like what i see in the 2995dx,not as well built but the 2995dx has a better power supply.

JYD,
I have owned manyRCI radios and I have never had a problem with any of the SMT boards. That board is far superior to the 2990 board. The 2990 had more problems than you could shake a stick at. The 2990 board was the same as the old 2950's which in my experience had many board problems like faulty solder joints. I know many people do not like to work on the SMT boards but they are better in my opinion as far as durability. The power supply is alot better. There are 2 versions of the 2995DX. The newest has an updated power supply and the finals are 1446's instead of 2290's. Some are using the ERF2030's for drivers. I have one of each. Very clean radio inside. I have a few complaints but nothing major.

Jyd,

To get the expanded frequency coverage ie: 10/11/12 meter's you will need to add the RCI Expansion chip that came with your radio if it has not already been convereted.

But I have a bad feeling that if you do NOT have expanded frequency coverage now then you did Not get the chip with your radio and I do not know of anyone who will just sell the chip.

Sorry but with all of the problems you have mentioned above you really need to have a good qualified tech check it over as it appears is has MAJOR problems.

399 for a referb, 489 for new so that is a good buy even if you have some minor problems. Good luck I'm sure with all the help on the site you will have that thing up and singing soon. God Bless. Brad.
