I plan to perform the NPC on my galaxy 99v (3600 board).

When I got it the only modifications that I could find were:

L3 stretched
TR32 removed
TR53 removed
R249 removed

Surprisingly it's not distorted or muffled when I heard it on AM, it isn't as "loud" or "punchy" as I have heard some properly tuned 99v's though.

My plan is to replace TR32, R249 and perform the NPC mod (addition of 100ohm resister and 1n14001 diode at C183) and possibly volt the finals. However I have two different versions of this mod, one suggests to remove R249 and one suggests to remove TR53 (both insist on leaving TR32 in place or replacing it if it's missing). Which is best?

i'm doing this from memory & just 'assuming'.....since 1 mod says tr53 & another says r249, check the schematic, they're probably right next to each other, so removing either gives the same affect. AND they probably are the AM modulation limiter control. if the suggestion is to leave tr32, it's probably either for SSB or the very 1st place limiting is placed in the audio amplifier circuitry. don't remember L3....if it's in the RCV line, then go ahead & tweak for best RCV. if it's in the XMIT line-DON'T. never spread XMIT coils, it's filtering, & any wattage increase is harmonics & trash. again, no schematic, but i'm not sure just the addition of an R & D @ c183 is accomplishing much of anything effective.
the older boards have more problems once you start modding the heck out of 'em. it's real easy to crud up SSB on them, and 'loud punchy AM audio' on the 3600's is best attained by moderate peaking & decent microphone.

per cbdoctor that wrote the original npc mod you need to volt the final to accomplish the full effects of the mod.
it is here on this forum under the voyage 9000 npc mod.
