I'm getting a x-force 60012 base and will be running it with my 2995dx. what do I set the radio dk at? I read in this forum to dk the amp at 275 to 300 and let it swing. do I just bring the power knob down on the radio and then bring it up till I get that dk off the amp? the 2995 dx was tuned at copper when I got it last year

I think that is a 1kw amp so I would keep amp dead key below 300 watts and get some radio checks. Watch the watt meter.
To have a fully modulated AM signal the idea is to have your dead key set at 1/4th of what the total output "PEP" power is of the amp. This way the signal is clean, clear and loud. The amp will operate more efficiently this way and will not rapidly overheat transistors.

Hotwire,

I have a 12 pill, it does over 2000 Watts close to 2400Watts, 1/4 of that is 600 Watts, so I should have 600 Watts DK from the amp?

2400 watts PEP from a 12 X 2sc2879 to me sounds like one very warm amp. I'm sure the amp you have is a custom like a Davemade or similar with plenty of fans.
Yes, I would want around a 600 watt deadkey with a 2400 watt swing. Just get the deadkey in the ballpark and make sure you sound right.
Personally I would not put 12 transistors under that much abuse even though many do.
Myself, I would just cruise the amp around 1500 watts PEP give or take a little and sound incredible.
If you have not already I would invest in a peak reading Bird with watts like that.
Just to know for sure whats going on.

the paperwork with my 60012 says;

recommended drive power:
400 watt dead key
20 dead key watts drive (x-80)
2 watts deadkey from radio

max drive power:

500 watt deadkey
30 watts deadkey drive (x-80)
3 watts dead key from radio
max swing 250 watts

aj
you dont need an amplifier, you need a BIGGER ANTENNA
