i have a 2517 peaked and,mod limiter removed.does about 30 to 35 watts.my question is should the swr change with dead key? 1/4 watt dk=4 swr.4 watt dk=2swr. 8 watt dk=1.5 swr. is this something in my radio?if so what will fix it?

are you readjusting the 'calibrate' control each time you change wattage? if you don't readjust, then yes, swr will change.

Bridge man, What Pat means is that anytime the radio wattage is made higher or lower you must always reset the SWR meter back to zero, recalibrating the meter back in tune with the setup.
If you do not recalibrate you will get a wrong SWR.
Also, forget about internal radio swr meters. They are not really accurate enough to get a good SWR reading. Might get you in the ballpark but no homerun.
KEEP IT REAL!

as dead key INCREASES, swr DECREASES? i wasn't paying attention the 1st time . hmmmmm, usually the other way around. maybe the meters/cal are inaccurate when not enough power is applied? ever have that happen before? do you have access to another meter? if antenna is as per your profile, an a99 or imax, there's really no reason for swr to change or be bad if you never touched the antenna. unless you have jumpers in line for 'accessories' (amp, etc), or maybe some water in coax, your swr should be pretty close to what it was 'out of the box'. if the antenna went 'bad', or your coax, or connectors went 'bad', you would notice a big drop in peoples signals, & they would tell you your signal dropped, maybe some bad or intermittent static if it was a connector, etc. i'd try borrowing another meter 1st.

Hyperno posts: Hmmmm....Imax 2000....i rest my case

I asked you in the antenna section why you made a similar unsupported claim that the Imax was junk.

Can you tell us why you think they're junk?
