Hi Everyone,
I've got an old Sears Roadtalker base, model 562.38200700. A friend of mine gave it to me to check out. He said it died out after a lightning storm, everything went dead. Initially, the unit would transmit, but had no audio output. It also had no recieve. No recieve audio. No flicker of the needle. Checked output voltage of audio IC, it was 8-9v. It also was very hot. Internal short, so the audio IC was replaced. Now the unit transmits and has awesome modulation with the D104 mike. I also went ahead and replaced most of the electrolytic caps surrounding the IC, as I'm sure they were pretty aged anyway. I have the ability to select and transmit on all 40 channels, but checking recieve by keying a nearby radio and it's very low. I have to turn the volume all the way up to hear it. Squelch seems to work, you can hear it cut out the recieve when it's turned clockwise. I've already tried tuning it on the recieve side, replaced the front end transistor and detector diode with no luck. I've also checked for proper voltages from the power supply as per Sams Photofacts.
Does anyone have any pointers on this radio?? I'm really stumped, I'm usually very good at repairing CBs, but I'm not perfect. That's why I'm here!
Thanks fellas,
-Little Ranger, aka "Rango"

Hey I live "down your neck of the woods".

You can search old posts on the Copper Forum here. I was reading (I hope he doesn't mind) that one of our members---"Bruce" has a Sears Roadtalker and he worked for Sears in a repair division so he may/might be able to help you...

You might be able to PM him
