Just wondering what anyone who's had one may think of a Joe Gunn vertical antenna for 11M?
Was it a fairly decent antenna for the "starter" or "mid-class" antenna group? No I know it can't compare to some of the base antennas out there some of you guys run, but I just took one down yesterday from a guy's roof and read that it was a Joe Gunn.
A shop somewhat near me sells Joe Gunn antennas but not the one I have judging from the pictures they have. I am unsure of this antenna model.
It's 15-years old. It has a 5-ft base section with a 1-FT coil surrounding the base. It then has another section that extends another 16-FT. It has four 8-FT radials. It looks much better than an A99 or Imax in design and is not a dipole like those two.
Anybody have/had one? What do/did you think of this antenna maker? |

It does not sound like a JoGunn to me. They use gamma matches on their antennas and not coils. I think JoGunn has made at least three ground plane antennas. I think two were short, about 9'- 11' and the other was a 5/8 wave or longer and was about 26' long. They were the Pistol, the Hillbilly, and the Son of a Gunn.
Have you checked their Website?
As far as I know they are not marked on the antennas. Where did you read it was a JoGunn? |

Foxhunter, this question has been asked before.
You can click on search to the left here and type in Jo gunn and read all the posts on members opinions.
This will save us all the time on posting or reposting our opinions
Hope this helps.
I myself don't like any of the Jo Gunn Antennas.

Ok sorry it was late and I just posted the question instead of searching. I thought I'd either read Joe Gunn on the antenna (but I don't see it now) or I was told by the guy I got it from that it was one. Now I'm not sure what it is.
It's a 22-FT long all-aluminum vertical. He said it was a 15-year old 5/8 wave antenna. It has four 8-FT radials. It does have a 1-FT "loop" about 2-FT from the bottom. On the loop is where the SO-239 is to connect the coax. |

Souds more like your discribing a Maco V-58.Look up majestic-comm website for info on it.

Yes today he remembered what he thought the antenna was and I just got home and read this last post by Tech291 and confirmed that it is a Maco.
I'll have to assume that it is the Maco Alpha V 5/8 and not the V5000, until I can maybe contact the manufacturer and find out how to tell.

In this case if it's a Maco and 15 years old in good shape you will be happy with it.

The late owner's Father said that he believed that the antenna was purchased through Copper Electronics.
Along with some other things I bought he gave me a whole stack of "Copper's News" catalogs from when I guess they still had them in print! |
