I am going to buy a new radio and was looking for opinions on the DX55V. Just for discussion what is the major difference between the DX99V & the 4800DXL except the DXL has about 10000000000000 more frequencies. Looked at both of them and you never know, after all tax refunds are just around the corner.

DX-55 is nice however for the best bang for the buck get the 4800DXL. It will eat a DX55 for lunch..

I kinda figured the DXL was meaner than the DX55 but I'm wondering what frequency range,power,etc... that the Galaxy will have as I may not be able to afford a DXL just yet although I really want one.

55 goes from 25.615-28 305 i believe if you tune it itll do a safe 10 watts am/fm dead key. no sideband but who wants that headache anyway. no echo...but this radio sounds excellent without echo and with a d104 hand mike on it!!!!! if your gonna slap a box aka linear behind it might as well get the55 as youll probably have to turn the radio down to 4 watts to use into a box anyway. ps less wattage equal more audio in the galaxy line!! get the 55 and the low drive texas star 250 and youll have serious fun . had one sold it with that set up as described. sorry such a biased opinion but galaxy is the way to go!! good luck catch ya on 26.915 am side sometime maybe.

Honkytonkman, thanks for the info.I am going to go with this radio but I was planning on using a 636 noise cancelling mic. how do you reckon that would go as opposed to the 104 and I was thinking the T.S. 350 to maybe do a little better with skip occassionally. When I get it all together I'll drop you a post here and see if we can't hear each other on 26.915 out of Florida sometime. Thanks again Bullseye

Will be purchasing a 2517 and Galaxy 55 from Copper in the next few days. With a Copper tune what kind of PEP (swing) can I expect from each?

Rbr2355,

Around 15-18 with the 55, and close to 30 with the 2517.
