i live in a apartment and i dont think i can have a big antenna sticking out of the ground.. What could i do to bring it in when i am done talking on it? Like putting the antenna on something so it could be portable..any suggestions? or what about this dippole antenna do they work good and could you talk a long distance on them.im looking for a few suggestions to see what could work and what wouldnt.. |

Are you looking for something for CB or Ham use?
If Ham I use a Multiband Buddipole, It's a HF portable Diepole that covers 40 - 2 meters, I have worked Hawaii from central Florida 2 times last year with it.
Just do a google search for Buddipole.

Couple of thoughts on what I did if you're talking 10/11 meters. Are you on first floor or higher? Long time ago I was on the 3rd floor of a 3 story apartment building & had I a balcony. I dropped a wire from the balcony & attached to stake in the ground for my ground (I don't believe anyone had any idea it was even there as it ran along the side of the building). I had 3 (5 foot) sections of mast I coupled put together when I wanted to use the radio and on the top section taped my old K-40 mobile antenna. I'd bungee the mast to the balcony railing and with the 15 foot mast cleared the rooftop. I had a big screw on the bottom mast section so I could attached the ground wire and I was talking dx and everything. That was in 1995-96 when the skip was pretty good. If you're on the ground floor, maybe a push-up pole and a small ground plane is all you need. Regardless, just get creative, improvise & have fun... |

i am on the first floor but i cannot put up a push up pole because it would be seen. plus the landlord wont allow an outside antenna unless i could put it on something that could be brought inside when done..these dipoles do they have a good talking distance on 11 meters? |

The Buddipole works great on 12 meter 24 MHz and it also works great on 10 meter 28 MHz
So that puts 11 meter 27 MHz(cb)inbetween the two so I'm going to try it out on 11 meter (cb) and see just how well it does, I'll let you know something in a few days.

Would you be able to put a A99 or Imax 2000 on a 10 foot mast inside a tripod? then just take it down and apart when not in used?
I have also done that before when living in an
Apt with good reports. Not as good as being up at 36 foot at the feed point but lots better then a mobile... or it you know of a high parking garage go to the open top flood and do the same with A99/Imax2000 inside a tripod.
I did that during the CEF sunday nets before and was able to have my Imax 2000 over 90 foot high.
Would love to do that again but no wheels at this time.
I'm sure you will find something that works best for you.... if there is a will there is a way.

Short Legs, Why not just get a 11m Bazooka Dipole. It's alot cheaper that a Buddipole. |

Yes you can use the Bazooka Dipole inside the house. They'll work very good inside. |

I wish I had pics to sent you. I dont use a dipole or I would send some. I will try and get the info you are asking for and post it here for you. I know what you mean when you say you never did this before and need detaied instructions.

try building a co-linear array under the building. I did that for a friend several years back and stung a 5 element co-linear at approx 2ft high. He worked all Australian States (OK it was in Aus)and many countries on 11m before he moved 12 months later.
