K got a new 2995. I was wondering what I should adjust my rf power deadkey to. I know if I put my rf power over 50% on 11meter AM people say I sound tinny. At 50% my deadkey is about 48watts. So what should I keep my deadkey at on AM. Plus should I keep this deadkey the same on SSB. Sorry just trying to know the right setting for this radio. Thanks for the help. |

what does it swing to? When I had mine, I had it between 1/4 an 1/2. If you push it too hard, them finals will NOT last long at all! I would go on SSB and get some reports with it at 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 and see where it sounds the best. Another thing you might want to try is, adjust your mic gain back a little. Sometimes that makes the tinny sound go away. what kind of Mic you running? Also, did you get it peaked an tuned or is it just a stock radio? There can be many factors in where you want to put the RF gain. I hope some of what I said helps. Tech565 Net and Asst. Net controller CVC#38 Ham#243

Thx for the help. I have the radio peaked and tuned, but only have the stock mic. I am looking to get a nice mic that is custom made by a local trucker. It is not a power mic,but everyone I talk to that has one, sounds like they are on a power mic. This is the updated power supply in the 2995. Can hear a fan in it. Think it is more of my mic gain causing the sound. Called the shop where I bought the radio. He said I can dead key it whereever I want to. So like I said want to get a better mic. Then I should be all good. Thx again for the help. |

Kufbass, I think getting a new mic will work wonders. I used a d-104, echomax 2000 and a galaxy 2000 base mice on mine. they all sounded good and i had good reports. Stock mics never seem to work good after a peak an tune..lol. Now as for the dead key, I wouldn't push that radio with too high of a dead key. Sometimes bad thing happen when you do..lol. Unless you really really have to, I would run the RF gain bout 1/4 to 1/2. That could be anywhere from 10w-25w dead key and that should be plenty. Don't want to push it too hard an have the radio out on ya. I have been there an done that with a 2990 an a 2995. They are already an expensive radio an fixing them is not cheap either. again, just my .02 Tech565 Net and Asst. Net controller CVC#38 Ham#243

Yep getting a new mic on Fri. They are called a 431 Peddler Custom. My local dealer sells them and had him order a 6 pin for me. These mics are loud!! They are like a power mic but no battery is needed. Will let you know how that works out. Ya I keep my dead key between 1/4 to 1/2. I will tell you though when it is near 1/2 I get better swr reading. Plus my dk is at over 45watts at that lvl. Radio seems to work better at that lvl. |
