What does the solarcon a99 mean when they say dc ground?

A DC ground is a DEAD SHORT outside of the 27 mhz band it's tuned to.
The idea is if you get a nearby strike MOST of the energy goes to ground and not down the center of the coax
The 2nd thing it does is bleed off noise that will build up on any antenna just because of simple induction......
It's a simple noise and lighting protection system.

I have an Imax 2000 and have had dozens of other base antennas over the last 30 years of this hobby. I have several other operators within 20 miles with aluminum base antenna and when they have two or three units of noise floor I have none and I hear base stations that they don't. My station is grounded, my antenna is grounded and I use the best coax that Copper sells. I have read their tech tips on grounding to rid noise floor. Sometimes guys its not the antenna but coax, no grounding or situation. You may have a noise device close to your residence. This can be anything from a charging unit in a commercial building or a neighbor that has a drill charging 24/7. Aside from your antenna there is always something you can do to aliviate a noise floor but it just takes work and reading tech books. |

I think its poorly thought out since fiberglass base antennas work just as well as any other IF you build them right.

On my setup with the workman no ground plane antenna. The noise level goes down at certain times of the day. I noticed yesterday that the noise level goes up in the 20+ channels in the 1 - 20 the noise level is low and i can hear far stations.
