I know these are old school, but does anybody use these, I run a 5 footer that TX,RX great, any thoughts on these antenna's pro or con |

i had a 7 footer mounted on the passengerside
of my 84 chevy years ago.great antenna.
only other fiberglass antenna i thought was close to it was the wilson silverload

I run 7 foot hamsticks they are the same design as a skip shooter except on other bands.
They woek just fine ...

I use to run a 5ft SS. And it was a super talking antenna. Much better TX/RX than several other popular brands(I own many name brands).I think I'll get another.
Cons: That little nail. It can be knocked out by tree branches. |

So would a Wilson silver load be about the same as a Skip Shooter ? |

My SS out did my Wilson(4ft)silver load on distance. I saw about 4 mile increase using the SS. |

close in performance

IMHO, the Skipshooter antenna has better xmit and rx than most antennas out there. I am going to install a 7ft SS on my mobility scooter mainly because it does not need a ground-plane and that is perfect for my mobility scooter.

The problem here is a controled test ....
Having used many antennas on many bands I find most 7 foot antennas are about the same ... HAM sticks and FIREsticks are good examples.
VERY poor are the Larson base loaded wips you can tell they are not as good by looking at just the "S" meter.
Nothing beats a 9 foot wip .... except the tree branches as your going down the road.
