i'm getting ready to put my cb antennas back up after 10 yrs of retirement, couple quick questions, i didnt see anything in other posts about, i see alot of people who stack a omni above a horizontal beam, i have a PDL2 and a a99, they used to be on diff ends of the house, is there any reason i cant put the a99 on top of the beam? will it interfere with the vert operation of it? is there a particular height it should be above the boom? thanks for any advice, one of my towers crashed and burned over the years, just thinking i could avoide buying a new one.

no reason you cannot i did it on 2 and 6 meters for decades

There will be some problems but if the pdl2 is horizontal i don't see why it would not work if you going vertical to vertical you might have to play with them a bit

Generally they reccomended separation is a quarter wave. Also if using antenna switch get one that grounds the unused antenna, as this may help prevent problems from the unused antenna. A disconnected antenna has, on occasions been the cause of interference problems.

i was going to use the switchbox that came with the pdl2, im unsure if it grounds the other or not, has three selections, H, V, Aux, so maybe the makers took that into consideration. after digging through many many boxes of old cb "stuff" i came agross my pdl2 owners manual, reading through it it reccomends one full wave 36' seperation from it and another antenna, i'm doubtful if they foresaw another one on top of it. im going to have to go out to the barn and look at the mounting bracket on the actual antenna, from the pictures in the manual it doesent look like a mast can extend past the boom, i'll get some pictures of the impending train wreck this is sure to become and start my own shack thread, as i've been out of it for some 10 years or so, theres not much more than piles of cardboard boxes to see yet. there is a a99 on a 4ft pole jammed down in the pipe that holds my satellite dish, thats working out marvoulous as you can imagine! |

ok, after reading practically this entire forum im of the opinion that this is probably not going to produce the best performance, plus the modification the the boom mount, it doesnt allow for mast to continue upwards, so in shopping copper for what i need to seperate my antennas i came across something interesting, a switchbox that is 4 position, H, V, AUX and hor+vert, the one that goes with the pdl2 is 3, does anyone know if i can use this box on this antenna? is there signifigant gain to hor+vert? how hard would it to be to set swr on this feature, as the ant original directions has you doing them (hor, then vert) seperatly, should i save my $32 and stick with the stock box

running a metal mast all the way thru the middle of a pdl 2 will cause some tuning as well as possibly some performance issues. its short, 4' boom means you'll have a minimum of 20' of metal running right down the middle, 2' away from the wire driven element & 2' away from the wire reflector. vertical omni atop a beam works best when the beam is a horizontally polarized yagi. |

Pat I donot think running a mast all tghe way through would inter fear since a mast already is inline on the Vert. elements |
