I'm having a problem with the modulation on a recently purchased 2995 from Copper. No matter how high the mike gain is set or what type of microphone is used, the modulation is weak on AM and SSB when the RF power is turned up. On low power, it works fine. Anyone have and ideas?

Thanks, Alex in AZ

Appreciate the responses, but I figured out the problem -- just not sure why. I had an X-Force ah, "preamp" inline from the previous radio and for some reason it was sucking the power and modulation from the 2995, even though the aforementioned "preamp" was turned off. I took it out and the radio works fine now. So... why would that be?

Thanks,
Aldhelm

Turned off it should have no effect unless it is causing a big time mismatch.

As for any amp after a ranger most amps only require 2 watts of drive what you are seeing is flatoping of the amp with radio power output simply your overdriving it.
