which radio is better I have a chance to get a 2950 for $150 or a 2970 for $125 which is a better buy?

Both sound like good deals if everything is working ok on both.
The 2950 will give you the optionof using a Low drive amp if you choose to in the future.
The 2970 would require a High drive amp if you ever plan on using an amp.
Having owned and used both over the years my #1 choice would be the 2950.
Both are GREAT Radios if properly taken care of.
The 2950 is Smaller in size if you plan on using it as a Mobile & Base, same features but less head aches to worry about and you could always add a small amp later if you choose.
With the newer car's the Size & Weight of the 2970 & 2970DX can also be a factor for mobile use in mounting.
And for me personally with the 2970 being less money I would have to ask why?
And I would want to hook both up and test them on air with feedback from other on air operator's to make sure that ALL of the feature's on both work OK. 
So my #1 overall choice would be the 2950 from what you have posted.

sorry lon I said the wrong price on the 2970 it is $175 I think now I will go for the 2950 thank you lon for the advice

They are both good radios, only difference is the 2970 has a built in amp.

Loved my 2950 and would have another one tomorrow if I came across one at a good price.
Now in my old one we fitted a relay and re-wired the CW key jack so that if a shorted plug was inserted we had CB, remove the jack and power cycle the radio - strictly 10m

I have a 2970(orange display)it is one of the best 2970's I have ever heard. I got it from a friend that is an electronic engineer and a ham. He done all the mods on it and the receive is one of the cleanest I have heard. The amp in the radio is variable to 300 instead of the stock setup and is very clean. the audio is loud and clean and I run it with the stock mic. This radio has never been to a CB shop ever! The only drawback is the size, I have heard others and most have a noisy receive and are over modulated and splatter heavily. The best thing to consider is never taking one to a CB shop. Have someone who knows radios well do the work. The 2950 is the same radio minus the amp and they are a bit smaller due to not having the large heat sink. Great radios!!! |

i NOW HAVE BOTH THE 2970 AND THE 2970DX. oUTPUT ON THE DX has been turned down to same as 2970. The 2970 is cleaner radio and better receive. I gave $150 at a hamfest and bought the dx new at copper. I also had a 2970 many years ago that I bought new. Wish had never sold it. Wish could find a mod to open clarifier. Nothing on here about that. tony/n5jva/cef 259 |
