I think I've got a problem and need guidance. Radio was great until involved in car accident awhile back. Mic stopped working but troubleshot and replaced the mic after fixing it a few times. Thought all was well but it seems I have a slow key response and stray noise. What I mean is: It's an LED screen that always shows about 5 pounds (rs units?) of noise, even if I completely remove the antenna connector. With this removed, the sound drops (obviously) but still has an audible hiss. In the RF and Mod mode, it keys up quickly as it used to but doing the built in Cal and SWR it moves very very slow. An external SWR meter moved as advertised. Even when I dead key it under MOD, it drops to only 5 lbs as mentioned above. Actual modulation it fluctuates like it's supposed to but then drops back to 5 lbs while still keyed with no background noise. I've talked 1/2 way across town on AM and they say it sounds weak but clear but I've heard AM is not the strongest on these radios, especially with a stock mic. I just know it used to be very responsive when keying the mic and now some modes it's not. Receiving 5 lbs without an antenna hooked up??? I don't get it. Old mic and new mic reacted the same after the wreck. I don't know crap on fixing the insides of these things and have few shops to work with locally so need some help on: (1) if I even have a problem? or (2) it still works so leave it alone? I'm studying for my HAM license to be able to use the 10 meter band. It's been previously modified for 11 meters so that's what I talk on, at 4 watts of course. The local shop who sold the mic tested it out in my presence and said that's where the best modulation was at and even marked it for me. He said it didn't swing like most he'd seen but he didn't seem too familiar with this particular radio (although a good honest guy who doesn't rip people off). Do I need help?
