I'm looking for a antenna to put on our Volunteer fire truck.I need one that will talk a pretty good distance and that will stand up to hitting limbs.I will be using a mirror mount.Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

A 102" whip! Just kidding. How about the Wilson trucker model? The one with the SS whip above the center load. I see a lot of truckers using them. Far better than those fiberglass....things.
What kind of firetruck you putting this on?

THanks for the reply Tech 181.Our fire truck is a 1990 model E-One pumper.I thought about putting one of my truckers on there but I would hate for it to get beat up or broken.Especiallysince they are kinda expensive.Right now I have one of those Solarcon half steel half fiberglass antenna's.I actually thought about putting a steel whip on there but I cant find any where to mount it.Do i need to run a ground for the antenna since its mounted on the mirror?

Snowman,
Be sure that the mirror isn't totally isolated from ground by rubber grommets between the mirror and the cab. Cab is aluminum right? Put the antenna on and check SWR, then go from there.
I mounted a AM/FM antenna on the mirror of our '98 Seagrave and it works well.

Does anybody know how good or haved used the Little Bubba antenna. It 60" tall and says its covers 26-30 mhz. I need a lighter weight/or wind load antenna then the Wilson 5' silverload. It keeps getting loose .Also mounted on factory mount. Not the strongest. On a volvo semi.
