I have recent;y been thinking about getting a small beam. Was thinking about a PDL 2 or a 3 element. Room for it is a consideration. What do you think ? |

If you want a small beam and want to do both Horizontal and Vertical, then the PDL2 is your beam. If you want to run one for DX, then you can get a 3 ele and set it horizontal. It is bigger than the pdl2 but it is a nice beam. I have both an unfortunately, they are both on the ground right now  As soon as I heal, I am goin to put up teh 3's as I personally like those a little better and they are going to be used for DX only

i agree with tech 565. locals here use to
run beams on verticle but found it much easier
and less wear and tear and rotar, and just use
a groundplane as a verticle.and use a straight
3 elem. on the flat side for dx.

another good beam to try is the Maco Y quad. i've used one and talked all over the world with it. you get the benifits of dual polarization light weight to use a small medium duty rotor and you can mount it on a push up pole or a small tri pod on the roof. i ran PDL II's in the past as well performace between the two is compairable. i tried out the Y-quad beacuse the PDL's are no longer made. on ebay you can find them but folks are over pricing them by a lot. now they are selling for $300.00 & more on ebay i used to pay $100.00 for them from crazy harveys cb shop in tamonium maryland in the good ole late 70's early 80's. the Y quads work just fine. plus with the dual polarity you can go vertical & talk to all the guys in DX land running omnis & mobiles then go horizontal to hit all the big base stations and take out the hash. |
