Ok, I am finally getting the time to install a new antenna setup. I am taking down my Maco 5/8, adding a 10ft section to my 30ft tower+7ft mast and intalling one of these 3 setups for 10-11 meter ops.
1)PDL-2 47ft to antenna boom, Alliance HD-73 rotator.
2)Maco M103 flat W/A99 above it 47ft to Maco M103 boom, Alliance HD-73 rotator.
3)Old Wilson Shooting star completely rebuilt 47ft to antenna boom, Alliance HD-73 rotator.
I am so indecisive that I am hopping someone here can help me make up my mind. What are the pros/cons to each setup.

well i like idea #2.mainly cause ya have one
antenna for verticle and one for flatside [dx]
mainly cause when txing locally using a 5/8 gp
ya dont have to keep turning it.basically less wear and tear on rotar.just my 2 cent worth

Yea, been thinking hard on that one. So far #2 looks best to me but IDK for sure. Another plus for #2 is a very sort mast is all I would need too. |

By far, option 2 is your best bet.
You will be amazed how well your Imax will work on top of that beam too.

I don't have an Imax 2000 but I do have an A99. That would work pretty well too even if it is a 1/2 wave I would think. #2 is prob the way I am going.
I could prob make some $ on the shooting star and PDL on the auctions craigs.

My mistake, sorry about that.
Yes, the A99 will perform well on top of that horizontal beam.
If your PDL 2 is intact, wonder if you would be willing to lend it out for a bit before you sell it. Might be fun to get all the measurements and specs on it for a possible PDL 2 knock-off someday. I'll bet Sirio or someone else would sell a ton of those if they reproduced them.

833, the PDL-2 is in very nice condition. I rebuilt it with some new parts and all stainless hardware. I even got stainless curved pieces made that hold the driven elements on the plastic hub. I have extra metal and plastic hubs so I can build either the old AV-120 or the newer AV-122 PDL-2.
I have it assembeled except for the outer elements and sitting in my garage ( to big for the garage if I completed it) waiting to be finnished but never getting it done LOL.
all this just to say I would be willing to lown it to you so we can talk about it, I would love a review on the PDL-2 from you even if it is discontinued because there is no good info out there about it from first hand testing.
If some one were to start selling one again I think it would sell all though Maco is selling the Y quad so IDK, it may be just as good.

Train man, That is the setup I chose to put up with one change. Instead of buying a maco 103c I took the shooting star apart and making a maco 104c with the use of a manual I printed off the Maco antenna web site. I emailed Maco to ask if the 104c can be setup for 10 meter and they responded yes, the measurements are not in the manual but I just need to shorten the elements by 1 inch and tune it.
