Dosy TC-4001-P test center power modification -
Hello to fellow forum members,
As a new member, I wanted to share some insight on a modification to a piece of test equipment, which I own;
I while back purchased a Dosy TC-4001-P test center a while ago (seems like a very decent meter, I’m very happy with it!)
However, it seemed inconvenient to have to run the small 12v. wall pack power supply, which I felt was unnecessary
when I had a great steady 12v. source, right at my fingertips. My radios power supply!! It is always shutdown when I
shutdown my station! Great I will be greener that is a little more efficient if you will) & run my meter from the power supply
directly. Cool energy saving idea right!
The answer is YES! Nevertheless, I strongly recommend that this with this simple modification be made.
Change the 1/8 phone plug & jack that the test center has to the following:
Size M Coaxial plug & jack – the center pin is the positive + connection. No sparking worries, when plugging it in
to the 12v. source.
Unlike my original modification, making a jumper cord with the 1/8 plug (center tip +12v.) which WILL spark if
Connected or disconnected to a running supply, as is the Case of the test center is at the 12v ground, in the circuit.
However, the coaxial type connector eliminates this hazard. I have also added a 2-amp inline fuse to the jumper cord
on the + center pin side. You also can make an adapter for your vehicle, using this jumper. (center pin to +)
You will need to change out the test centers original phone jack, to the size M coaxial jack. Much safer!!
Almost any size coaxial plug & jack will work well for this handy modification, that not critical.
