Hey everyone... I live in a 2 story condo with a small, fenced in patio.

I was considering getting the mfj magloop (1786) already, for stealth purposes or what not...

My question is: I have some friends working on getting their tech licenses, (along with a few other friends who already ARE licensed,) and they want to get on 10 meters at night and chit chat or what not.

All of them live in about a 5 - 35 mile radius of where I live.

So the question? Would the MFJ loop allow me to talk via direct-wave propagation locally? Or would I need to pursue some other method, such as a hidden vertical wire for 10m or what not?

Thanks!

I 35 miles with 100 watts, maybe if you are all polarized the same.

I found something you might want to look into. It's a Par electronics (another company took over them now LnR Precision, INc. phone 336-495-7713) end fed wire. It is an amazing and stealth antenna. The little matchbox on the end is a magic box and these antennas work as good as an Antron 99 or any 1/2 wave. Look up par electronics end fed 10 meter reviews and you will see a perfect 5/5 review of these antennas with nearly 200 reviews. I have the same situation as you and I use one on 11 meters. With my feedpoint just 1 foot off the ground and running vertically straight up to a tree with fishing line I talked to a mobile over 20 miles away in fine fashion. You guys, could run run horizonally and improve your signals too. Just some thoughts. I'm glad you asked because I've found something cheap that works and doesn't need a tuner and your signal gets out to your antenna! Good luck on what you choose, but I wasted my time with one project after another before finding this jewel.

Mike seems to be the spokesman for PAR lately.

The MFJ loop will work close in on 10m as long as you mount it at least 20 feet above everything. Make sure you run same polarity as your friends.

A dipole (or PAR endfed) will work too.
