Hello, Looking for a little help, I have a Washington radio that has very low volume, even when turned all the way up?? I can hear talking
when changing the channels. but very faint.
Trying it on a Wilson 5000 for test purposes.
Any input would be appreciated

id try using an external speaker. maybe
the one in radio isnt any good

also make sure you got a mic plugged in
to the socket. they dont have any volume without a mic .

You say your trying the radio on a Wilson 5000?
Is it mounted to a car?
Is it grounded?
What is the SWR?
Are you sitting in the car using it's antenna and an extention cord to the radio or are you tapped into the car's 12v system?
Sometimes a bad final transistor will cause low transmit and recieve.
Just some ????s I had.

A bad RF final in a Washington will not cause low or missing speaker audio. And, even if his Wilson 5000 wasn't on a car, he'd be fine since he's trying to listen, not transmit.
Anyway, there are a couple of simple things to check. First, the external speaker and headphone jacks are designed so that when one or the other is plugged in, the built in speaker will mute. Try using headphones and an external speaker to see if the volume comes up. If it does work in the headphones or external speaker, then exercise the jacks to clean the connections and restore internal speaker audio.
If I recall, the Washington should have receive audio even without a mic plugged in, so I don't think that is the problem.
If the speaker or headphone jacks aren't the issue, then you may have an internal problem requiring a tech.

There are two different models of the Washington radios.
The early model with the President name (858 chip) has a 4 pin mike connector.
The later model Washington with Uniden name (8719 chip) has a 5 pin mike connector.
The 5 pin Washington has to have the mike plugged in to receive.

Thanks for all the help and quick responce,while travelling I asked a buddy to try it on his already established station.
And found out that this radio will not have acceptable volume unless the mic is plugged up, i just got this radio off ebay and it didn't come with a mic.
I was surprised to find that out, never heard of a radio that has to have the mic to hear.
