Anyone know anything about this? Says it is unity gain, DC grounded. I might be able to get away with hiding it from HOA at my house. I know it was made for a boat, but it is 27mhz CB, Surely it would be better than the 3 foot workman at 8 feet 1/2 wave?

thanks all, 392

Pressman, here is the exact antenna i was looking at. If this thing is descent, it is small enough that I can hide it from the HOA at 8 feet. I am using the workman 3 footer balcony antenna now. Thoughts on this one?

It is basically the same as the ones in the cool add you posted, but specifically for 11 meters....

If it's Marine frequencies (27.60 to 27.98) it may be too short for normal CB channels, althoug if you are lucky it may be broadbanded enough to work.

Most CB antennas designed for use on boats are of the "no-ground required" variety. You'll usually find that the coax cable is part of the antenna. The connector that is supposed to connect to your radio will have an extra 'stub' coming out of it, and shrink wrapped to the main cable. The coax length between the connector and the antenna is critical, you cannot cut it.

Anyway, the marine no-ground CB antennas usually do not work well when compared to a typical 1/4 wave ground plane. The whole object is to get it to work without a ground plane since most boats are made of non-metallic materials.

If you can mount a 1/4 wave stainless whip over some ground planes made of small gauge wire laying on the roof, you'd be much happier.
