This tower is in the backyard. It's concreted at the bottom, doesn't stand against the house (a couple feet behind it..) and I have no clue what brand it is. It's a whopping 15 feet tall.
Any ideas of uses for it?
also, any ideas what i could put up at this location?
No HOAs here. I'm into HF, VHF (fm), and *gasp* I do have a couple of old buddies that I talk to on cb from time to time who are about 15-30 miles out as well, all to the north of me.
Roof mounting is fair game, as well as the tower AND the building in the backyard.

The tower looks like a American Tower Company brand.
Also it looks to be two sections?
Is there bolts thru it at the haft way point?
And is this your home?
If all Yes then take the top section off and find more sections like what is in the ground and add to it (Maybe four more) and then put the top section back on. From the site of it close to the home you should be able to go 40-50 foot ( 4-5 sections)

That kind of tower doesn't stand up to shaking or side loads, and really won't hold up to twisting loads. They are designed for small TV antennas and nothing more.
They do work well for holding center or one end of a wire type antenna.
If you want to hang some serious metal in the air, you need to seek a tower that used criss-cross style leg braces like Rohn 25, 45, 55, etc.

I agree with criss-cross.
I'm thinking this tower was there when he moved in and was thinking why not use it? |

Pretty much, yep, the tower just happened to be here. I'm thinking that the rooftop (around 25 feet at the apex?) could use a tripod, some mast, and a Y-Quad or a vertical m103. The tower might be good for the middle of a dipole and for holding a small vhf/uhf vertical. Sound do-able?
As for the building in the back, seems like a good place for a rear pole to hold up the back leg of a dipole. |
