GREETING'S, I'M NEW TO THE FORUM AND I NEED SOME INFORMATION ON A TUBE MOBILE AMP "BUSHWACKER 250" WHICH HAS (1) 8950 PUSHING (2) 8950's. CAN ANYONE PROVIDE ME WITH THE NAME OF THE MANUFACTURER OR SOME SPEC'S ON THIS AMP (IE: AMPS REQUIRED TO DRIVE IT AS A BASE/INPUT WATTAGE/ MAX OUTPUT). THANX ALOT.

any amp that 1 driving x is a low drive 2-3 watts on am. and 10-12 watts ssb input.

Thanks for the info Dale, I just picked up this amp and I do not have any spec's on it, nor can I find any mention of the manufacturer either. I know it is a low drive amp, but I was wondering how low & what is the sweet spot for it since it has (3) 8950's in it...don't want to flatten out those babies in a learning curve  . Again thanks. |

That Bushwacker 250 would make a better Base than Mobile.
Tubes tend to put an unusually high strain on the new charging systems of cars and trucks today. I had a tube amp in a car with a 120 amp alternator. Just keying the amp made the belts squeal and talking would shut down the electronics. I'd recommend a TS-350 or a KL 300 amp in place of the tube type. It will run cooler and cause less problems with your charging system

Thanks for the comeback Pressman I just checked the feedback this morning and it is my intent to utilize the Bushwacker as a base unit. I'm just undecided over whether to get a 65/75 or 100 amp power supply to run it. I already have a brand new TEKPOWER TP-30SWII which is dedicated to powering my YAESU FT-900. Had I known I was going to get the bushwacker, I would have just purchased a 100 or higher amperage power supply. But thanks for your input, hopefully I'll still get some further info on the recommended amperage I should get. 73's.

I played with power supplies back and forth and wound up spending too much. Wish I'd gone with a 100 amp.

Amen to the spending bit, Press Man. In returning to the hobby, that was one lesson that I had learned well. Knowing that I may end up short in current with future upgrades, I purchased two Bulldogs 90-Amp switching power supplies. They are very quiet, reliable, have RF shielding and can be run in parallel (adjust both to equal voltage out). |
