I've had the A99 mounted on my roof for 23 years. On just 4 watts on CB Band, it's been awesome. Great locally, and great DXing. Still works fine today. But I'm just trying to boost its range as much as I can legally. So, I just purchased the GPK-1 for it and will install it soon, and raise the antenna another 10 feet..
How exactly does the GPK interact with the rest of the antenna? Does any power go through the GPK radials, or is it just that the signal from the antenna bounces off the GPK radials?
How does the interaction between the A99 and the GPK radials affect transmission? How does it effect receive?
Also.. if I weld the GPK radials to the collar, and weld the collar to the base of the A99 antenna, will that be OK? I could either do a traditional weld, or use some of that JB Weld cold weld. I just want added security. |

Several questions, actually.
OK, first of all, the GPK doesn't "react with the rest of the antenna", it actually decouples the feedline, keeping the coax from acting like part of the antenna.
Power does not "go through the GPK radials". Also, signal does not bounce off of them.
Interaction between the A99 and the radials? None. it is interacting with the coax cable more than anything.
If could affect the transmit and receive by decoupling the coax shield from the antenna and actually help the field created on transmit. It doesn't do anything for receive except help provide a path for some static buildup. The GPK has very little affect on the A99, but it makes a big difference on the Imax 2000.
Yes, you can tack weld the collar to the antenna and the elements to the collar. No problem. Also, not necessary. The lock washers provided in the hardware bag do a fine job.

What does it mean "decouple the feedline" ?
And how does the GPK do that? |

In line two of 833s response he says:
It keeps the coax from acting like part of the antenna. The antenna works on it's own and the coax is just feed line with the radials.
