I have a grk-8 hub and four 2ft. radials and four 6ft radials. I'm going to mount this directly below an imax 2000 on the mast the antenna is attached to. My question is, should i just mount the 6ft. radials or should i use the 2ft. radials along with the 6ft. radials? Part of me thinks the additional 2ft. radials arent going to make much of a difference. I just don't want to raise the toa by adding the 2ft. radials. |

you need to ask TECH 833 I do not believe the two foot radials will help. The length does not help the frequency you are using. The radial you use should be the length that you have from the company that manufactured the Imax |

Personally, I think the 6ft radials are too short also. I have always used the rule that radials need to be a quarter-wave long at the frequency of the antenna. That is for 27MHz somewhere around 9ft is more accurate.
When you say additional 2ft radials are they added to the ends of the 6ft ones or as extra radials sticking out of the center??

The hub has 8 threaded holes in it. The radials will be at 90 degrees from vertical. The 2ft. radials would be mounted in between the 6ft. radials coming out of the center and not at the end of the 6ft. radials. I thought about getting 4 102" fiberglass whips,but they're almost impossible to find. stainless steel 102" whips are obviously out of the question. The imax 2000 factory ground plane kit comes with 4 6ft. radials that come out at a 45 degree angle.I just think the asking price for the kit is too much. thank's for the reply. |

I put the ground plane on the antenna. It works. |

The bottom of my antenna is only a foot or so above the roof. Even the 6ft. radials make contact with the roof on windy days. Birds perching on them would do it too. now I have 8 2ft. radials coming out at 90 degrees to the antenna. No rf in the shack, no tvi problems, no complaints from my neighbors so far. |
