Question. How high above the top of the tower does the Maco 103c has to be. Reason I ask is I am wondering about the tower affecting the antenna. Second question. How high above the maco 103c beam does the I Max 2000 need to be for the I max to get best result from the beam as for ground reflection like the GPK does. I know not to use the GPK when mounted above the beam. P.S. beam is horizontal |

with beam horizonal you can probaly get away with only having them 2-3 feet between them.then the imax you mount it on the same mast as the 103 directly above it

With the beam (yagi) being horizontally polarized, you don't need any spacing between them. You can literally mount the Imax right on top of the boom bracket for the yagi.
As for the tower, you don't need to worry about that. Unless the tower face is really wide, it doesn't matter.

Thank you 833. Sorry to get back to you so late. Since my last post my IMAX 2000 Bit the dirt. It quit working. We had a severe wind storm. The antenna had been up for many year's. It did not break but, it is very curvy now. So I am thinking of going with the MACO V 5000 this summer. What would be the proper way to install this antenna above my 103 MACO that is horizontal ? |

Hello CB: I'm just a hobbyist but I've been in your predicament. I believe that you may get electromagnetic coupling between the Maco 103c and the V5000. The length of the passive elements may lend themselves to resonance, and somehow alter the beam pattern or take off angle. If you were happy with an Imax, I'd suggest to stabilize it with parachute cord 500. I did so with my Gain Master, which shares the same Achilles tendon (wind breakage). It withstood wind gusts >60 mph (until lightning hit). If you use guy wires & anchors to stabilize your tower, these non conductive cords may do the trick. |

as said, an imax can be mounted rite above the beam, also if you go to a maco 5/8s, leave the ground plane radials off and let the beam be the ground plane for the 5/8s..just mount it rite above the flat beam..

Well, I did not know if taking the radials off the MACO V 5000 would affect the set up. I really appreciate any help I can get always Thanks a lot. |

Yes, taking the radials off the Maco V-5000 will affect it, but not as badly as the ground planes would de-tune the beam below it.
You are still better off with an Antron 99 or Imax above the yagi, if that is what you want to do. I would do that before doing a Maco 5/8 antenna above a yagi.
In fact, I have an A99 that goes above a horizontal tri-band (ham) yagi, and it kicks butt! Very minimal coupling between the two.

Hello my friend Tech 833. Sorry I have not responded but, I have had the flu. What I do not understand is why the IMAX 2000 went bad in the wind storm we had. We had about 60 mph. I will not be able to take it down until early summer. I just wish the IMAX was more stiff. The fiberglass in my opinion should be thicker and the wire should be at least 8 to 10 gauge including the coil. It would really be one tough antenna. I know it would be heaver but I would pay extra if it were made like that. After the wind storm it was very crooked. Did not break as some had said their antenna did. As always 833 my friend I will take your advice. Always have and always will. HAVE A BLESSED DAY ALL. |
