I am planing on building a 2 meter 70cm beam antenna. I would like to know what if any effect the diameter of the element's would make if any on the performance of the beam ? I don't care about the weight of the beam that is not a problem. I have been looking at many do it yourself project's on the net. I was thinking of using half inch element's. ANYONE OR ANY TECH'S WHAT HAVE YOU TO SAY TO HELP.

The biggest affect (if any) element diameter has would be bandwidth, and to be honest you can get more than enough bandwidth using wire as thick as a coat hanger at 2m/70cm. Having said that, apart from weight which you have already discounted I see no issues with using 1/2 inch. Most 2m beams use around 3/8 inch or less for the elements
