Hey, here's an old radio an oldtimer can relate to.
You need a VFO with a 16 MHz output, the Glen with the frequency display is by far the best. The siltronix model 90, is the next best I think, but any of the others with an output near 16 meghz will work. That is for the Transmitter, you still have the receiver to work with, does yours have the HF crystal installed already, some came with that, and some didn't, if not you will need a crystal for that.
The cheapest and easist way to add channels to the transmitter is with a crystal, especially if you just use the Browning for AM talk, they are not very good for SSB anyway. With one additional crystal in the TX, you will have channels up to 27.555. You can add a second crystal for low channels, then it would go down to 26.655.
With the better VFOs, you would have more channels each way. Of course, tube radios, as some transistor radios, have their limits to broadbanding without quite a bit of work.
Something else to think about, with any VFO, you almost have to have a frequency counter, with the crystal conversion for the TX, you can use a 'roadmap', like those that are required for other radios. Just something to think about.
