I am new to this forum and relatively new to Ham/CB radios. I am setting up my 10\11 meter base station, an RCI-2995 with a pole mounted A-99. The base of the A-99 is about 16' off the ground. All new equipment, no mods yet. My steel mast pole is well grounded and I have a MFJ-270 lightning arrester grounded to an 8' copper ground rod at the base of the poll. My question is:
The A-99 shows ground between the center conductor and the outer ground on the A-99. I discovered this when checking the ohms on my coax and ultimately traced the ground to the A-99. Is this normal? Something is wrong. I can't get the SWRs below a 4. No traffic, except maybe less than 1/2 mile. |
