I run a VR9000 and have the KLV351p amp. I've only turned up the modulation a little on the radio. People that I talk to every night say I don't sound as clean as when I just run the Voyage "barefoot". I would imagine with the RF PWR all the way counterclockwise, I shouldn't be pushing more than the required what's or am I? Is this common in the sound or can it sound just as clean with the amp on as off?.....
I would appreciate any replies.. |

I'm using the stock Mic that came with the radio and do you mean by what am I powering the amp with?....If so then that would be the truck battery, if not, then I'm not on the same sheet of music.

Try this:
Run the variable power all the way down with amp on max.....get a check.
Then set the amp on position 4 and get a check.
Then set the amp on max and the variable on the radio at 9:00 or 10:00 position, get a check.
If none of this works you're either not getting enough current or ground to the amp, or you have a fault somewhere in the antenna system. |

what 181 is asking is how many watts is your radio dead keying into the amp.

you dont have a watt meter that shows how much your radio is dead keying.dead key needs to be at least 1/2 or 1watt on your radio |

Spydr, the 4w carrier is too high. It's good to have that varaible power so that when turned all the way down it's between 1 and 1.5w. |

Ok, sorry it took so long to get back but I finally got a watt meter and it says, with the RF power all the way to the left, 2 watts....
Should I turn the power up till I get a key of 4 watts? What's next for me?....

If you leave the radio as-is at 2w for lowest power, RUN IT LIKE THAT and set the 351 no further than position 5. This will match out nicely. If you continue to "sound different" when the amp is on you have issues with current supply, ground (lack of), bad coax somewhere or bad antenna. Maybe a combination. |

this -may- help. try gnding the case of the amp to a place very close to the amp. this is the case of the amp, not the neg power cord. i have seen some in the past that had a hiss/dirty sound, and this would usually help. don't know your exact situation, but this is worth a try. |
