What's the maximum voltage I can run a Texas Star DX1600 at without frying it? How many batteries will I need with this setup? |

Two batteries , 18 volt DC MAX....4 guage wire and drive it with a MOD V Texas Star...Use a 12 foot MINIMUM jumper , Use a 102 inch whip with 9913 coax..It will scream... |

does the batteries need to be the same cold cranks.what do you think of running a wilson 5000 with the 1600 and superstar 3900? Or is s.s. whip the way to go? and with a texas star 100 to drive it.what will be max amp out of the sweet sixteen.i'm about to set it up .any other suggestion? i like the look of the coil antenna which one is the best for this setup? thanks for any help you can give. |

You can run the sweet 16 though a W5k, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the coax with a higher grade.
The ss3900 and dx100 would work ok with the 1600. You will likely need to do some additional grounding of body-to-frame, as well as battery, engine block, alternator to frame. 4ga minimum wire to feed and ground the amp, 125a fuse for the power wire to the amp.
Running 2 batteries is good and 2 "like" batteries is recommended. Expect to see about 500w rms and about 1200w peak from that setup. A good meter that reads reflected power is a good idea as well. |

the 1600 uses a voltage divider circuit for biasing. 18v would give too much bias, and could blow your trans. if you run this much voltage, the voltage divider circuit will need to be reworked or the divider needs to be fed from a constant 12-14v source like a 12v regulator. |
