I won one of these amps on the nightly auction the other night and would like to know if it needs anything done to it to work on my stock Uniden mobile. I am also curious as to what kind of transistor it uses and what is the wattage that can be expected with the 3 or 4 watt input. Thanks for any and all responses. |

Should do a little over 100 max. It's either a single SD1446 or a 2SC2290. Key it with watt or so.

Thanks Tech 181. I don't know anything about turning the radio down. It is a Uniden PC68LTW that I bought for myself as a Christmas present from Copper, ha ha. There is only one guy in the area that clips and peaks the radios around here and I have heard he isn't always trustworthy as far as doing what you ask him to if you are not one of his freinds. Wil I hurt the amp running it at the stock 4 watts? Thanks again for the help. |

The 68 does not have a vr pot to turn down the carrier.
There's two ways to achieve this in a 68, you will need at least a meter, soldering skills and equipment, and a few misc. parts or materials.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I don't feel comfortable tackling this myself, so as long as my amp or radio will not melt down, I guess I will have to live with it. Does turning the carrier down improve the transmission quality, or just prevent bleedover? As you undoubtably realized I am not an "old pro" at the hereto and wherefore of amp use. Again thanks! |

If you talk very much, you will have a meltdown.....literally.
Running high carrier into a single device biased amp results in much added heat and usually in distortion and/or muffled audio in addition to harmonics and bleedover.

With a 2 watt dead key mine is putting out a 30 watt carrier, and swinging to about 60-80 watts....is this about right for am????? Thanks.. |
