yes they can. especially some radios that have had the mod limiter removed. sometimes it`s the audio ic or something similar can be damaged. some mikes like astatic ,turner, can actually overdrive a radio. ( see original wiring books for both mikes, they are full of info on what radios you have to put a reisister on the audio line of the mike ,etc to use without damaging radio,etc..)hope this help`s.. 73`s from rightwing.

Yes, I have a turner super sidekick that was all gone through by an excellant motarola engineer. It makes the radio heat up in an extreme fashon. But I run it on my melaka and it runs great.

Basically the mic is too good fro the radio!

Thanks for the info Rightwing and Taz! I have a Syncron mb7000 I bought here from Copper. I think it's just like the old Turner mics. I want to run it on my Cobra 2010 GTL but I don't want to damage the radio. Do you think the Cobra can handle it? Any info would be helpful... I know "NOTHING" about electronics, I was running this MIC on a Washington and it died... No transmit, receives fine, do you think this mic could have done that?
Best Wishes, 3&8's...

taz, did you take out the mod limiter from your radio? funny thing, some radios after they have been cranked mod wise don`t need a power mike.we had a fellow in the old neighborhood who had a modified radio modulation wise and he sounded great. but when he put in a power mike, he sounded crappy and he would get into eveyones tv set, stereo, and such..when he ran a stock mike ,he wouldnt do it.

No i dont clip anything! except maybe the talkback thing but thats eayse to solder back. No I think that syncron would have toruble doing that to a washington, but maybe. The reason he was all over his tv and sterio was because he was over 100% modulation which is spurious emmissions. My radio is capable of 100% and not a bit more. The mic that I have was gone through by a motarola engineer. It runs excellant and adds base with alot of audio. THE BEST MIS IS A STUDIO MIC! 100% DIGITAL!

amen and hallelua. anything over 100 percent modulations, not ony illegal, but totally unnecesarry. not to also mention, it`ll get you in trouble with your neighboors, etc.. lol. taz, what kind of digital mike you use?

I dont use a digital mic, I use a Turner super sidekick that was gone through by the senior motarola engineer, It does every thing a speech prosser and digital mic does but in analog. Excellnt Mic!!! But even a radio shack digital mic would work! Those are actually pretty good!

Yeah never clip the limiter, if you are never going to run a power mic then more (power) to ya but if you are then what is the point? just turn the rv pot for the modulation to max then back it off a hair hook up the mic and bingo, you have yourself a loud radio. that is if the radio itself is loud, some radio's lack loud audio but are otherwise good, there are fixes for those kind of radio's but take more time and effort.

you are right taz, why piss off your neighbors and make enemy`s? life`s too short to screw around.some radio`s like the rci-2950 have so much modulation once the mod pot`s turned up that a power mike isnt necessary. i know. i had one. i guess some people never learn eh taz?
