a friend of mine has cobra 2000gtl that he bought used and it was well taken care of by the previous owner .the channels have been expanded and he has an external wattage control. he lives in a place where they dont allow antennas so he got clever and put up(all brand new parts)102" steel whip (grounded) with the spring on half of a mirror mount bracket and 75 foot of mini 8u coax and he has this mirror mount braket screwed on to the lip of his house roof.can anyone give any input on why the swr's are still like 3 |

Either the ground is poor or the coax is too long. My guess is the coax. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but from my experience with 102" whips 18' is the length you need to keep everything in sync. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

GROUND, GROUND, GROUND.....I cant stress that enough in this post but ground the mirror mount with at least 10 guage wire strait to a copper ground rod in the ground. My base antenna quit working so i made a bracket for a 102" whip and mounted it on my pole..I have 60' of coax between my radio and antenna and my swr is 1:5 on channel 1 and 1:9 on channel 40 |

YOU CANT HAVE 75 FEET OF COAX ON A 102 WHIP AND GET A GOOD SWR |
