I have a kl300/p that i have been using for the last couple of days. Been working fine. Turned radio on this a.m. and the usual skip was out there. Turned amp on and lost all rx. It was jumping from 3 to 9 on the radio meter when turned on. This a.m. the meter went from 3 to 0 with no rx at all. When keyed it show the proper watts that i had been using. coax is hooked up the right way and power hook up is right. No rx, lost it somewhere. Any good ideas why it would do that.

One of a few things could be wrong: the small jumper on pins 1 and 2 could have fallen off; relay RL1 has gone bad; or the pre-amp's transistor, TR4 (BF199), could have "poped" from and overload.

Could a 151J, it's a little pumpkin colored what ever you call them, about an inch in front of where the power wires are attached to the board. Using an ohm meter it said that it had a broken circut when touching the legs. Everything else has checked out OK so far.

That is a ceramic capacitor and you should not get contenuity normally. If you get continuity in one, it would be shorted and bad. Is the small jumper where it should be, over two of the three pins?

Still looking for help on this kl300p amp. Is there somebody out there that repairs them. No recieve when you turn it on, unless it's a close by carrier. The tx works and it swings to 125 on low and 200 on high. I can be recieved, but can't recieve. Maybe there is away that you can disconect the preamp and see what that does???. Works the same on any radio.

Crossbow,

Did you try to replace the transistor that Inspector mentioned?

no i haven't replaced the transistor yet. can this be check with an ohm meter to see if it is blown or not,or do you have to replace part by part until you find the problem.

If you still have this problem, you can bypass the pre-amp circuit completely by clipping the center leg of transistor TR3. This de-activates the pre-amp relay so you can have recieve again...

I would like to know if there is A mod for the RM KL-300P Amp. I am told that I am off freq. on SSB
I have two radio's I use as base and I get the same on both radios. I have A Galaxy DX 959 and old Sears Roadtalker 40. the Kl-300P spec. said that it op's at 3 - 21 Mhz. and that's out of range of 11 meters.
can anyone help.

The amp will only amplify what goes in. Galaxy radios are not the best ssb performers and I think you will find that the radios you have just need a good alignment.

I don't know if those amps require any type of conversion but If it works fine on am it should be fine. Also, if you are over driving the amp your audio will sound bad. The person you were talking to might have heard distortion and thought you were off frequency.

If the radio has just been cranked wide open and the audio is distorted the amp can amplify the distortion as well.

Don't worry about what you put into the amp as much as the power coming out. It has 2 sd1446 transistors which are rated for either 70 or 90 watts on 27mhz. I wouldn't push that amp past 150-200 watts pep and set the am dead key under 40 watts.
