I was wondering is it really worth the time and effort to add a variable power mod to a Cobra 25LTD Classic? I kind of like the idea of having a control to turn it down when I'm driving an amp, then turn it up when I'm running barefoot.

Mistah B,
I do believe that it would be worth the time, like you said its much more suitable for when you want it down to run an amp and up when your barefoot, the idea of haveing to get inside it and do it anytime you change to amp or no amp gets a little tidius if you do it often...

Well I haven't touched it yet. It's just a radio I had sitting on the shelf not doing anything. I want to set it up for competition use (w/ amp), and everyday rag chewing (barefoot). I was considering upgrading the final to a 2SC1969, that's why I need the variable power control. So far, it has a channel guard, echo board, roger beep, and key-up ping. I plan to add a cooling fan, and compandor. I was just wondering if anyone did the variable mod for this radio and how it turned out...THANX

There is a simple way to add variable to that radio, keep the amc intact, and get very good audio and swing. The 1969 is not necessary.
