I have a cobra 25 sound tracker it just stopped receiving However if you use an externak speaker and switch to the PA side it will receive. Oh it still transmitts, the radio has had the diod cut out and has an electrolytic capacitor and a 100 ohn res installed other than that it is stockswings from 1W-15W. Can you help? Thanks Jake. |

Have you checked the built in speaker ?? It may have died. |

I have checked the speaker and the speaker jack on the back of the radio and neither one has any audio output. Thanks Jake. |

There is a de-coupling capacitor from the Audio IC to the Speaker. It is about 470uF. Try to replace it OR is the squelch working? , you should be able to hear a small pop even if the audio is not working.

I replaced the capacitor and nothing happened. If you turn up the volume all the way up you can here someone faint'ly over the speaker. and the suelech is working |

since tx audio works, and pa audio works, the problem seems to start at the cb/pa switch itself or down the line(which is mighty short from here). it could be that the pa/cb switch is bad/dirty/has a lose wire when in the "cb" position, not allowing audio to pass on to the int spkr, and ext spkr jack.
the only actual component i see that could go bad here is c92, a .001uf cap that may be extremely leaky. this would explain the faint audio when volume is wideopen. but a dirty cb/pa switch would also explain that. you can pull one leg up, and if that is the problem, audio will be restored. by the value, it looks like it purpose is to role off some of the audio highs. |

If you have a signal tracer or can get one, you can check all the way from the audio drivers to the speaker. In some radios this is also caused by a mic problem, due to switching in the mic or a defective cord. |

409, i think you have it. the int, and ext spkr is grounded through the mic. the 1st thing to do is try another mic.
man, that is one of the 1st things i look at, as i'm sure 307 does also, but we both seemed to overlook that.
i would almost bet money the mic is the culprit if he hasn't already tried another mic. |
