Hey 307,I Emailed Warlock for help but he said youd the man on these old style Grants with the 858pll. Well I've heard horror stories about buying stuff on Ebay. Now I'm a statistic. Anyways, The radio came to my QTH yesterday. I fired it up and it seemed to recieve well. So I hooked up my Dosy Libra meters to it and went to key it up. When I keyed it made your usual click to transmit and the TX light came on, but no carrier. Needle on radio or my dosy meters didn't move. OK, I thought it was my mic. So I disconnected mic jack and jumped the TX with pin and radio does the same thing, no deadkey carrier. I now it's hard to diagnose over forum. But maybe you can give me a lead on where to check. If audio driver is Franked, what are the Symtoms......... Thanks

Hey 307, I pulled cover off of Grant. I noticed two TO-220 Case Finals in Heatsinked in back of Radio the one on the left is NEC C1304 and the one Heatsinked on the right, it looks like it's a aftermarket final that someone soldered in before. it has different no. NTE 152. Shouldn't those finals be both C1306? Also, there is another TO-220 final mounted on the right hand side of radio, kinda by mic plug. C1419. What is the function of this one. Tho only other one, is The ten pin IN-LINE IC (Audio Amp/Modulator) wich I can't get a number off it. It's tucked away bolted to chassis. With the symtoms I described above, Which one of these do you recomend replacing? If That's even the problem.....
Thanks

It does not sound good however , it most likely is the AM Power Regulator on the inside right side mounted to the case...

Dont feel too Bad. I just became a statistic on a TRC-448 on e-bay. Gently used sold as is my A$$.
it came with the fuseholder busted and the wrong mounting bracket & no mic.

I replaced the fuseholder and bought a universal mounting bracket and hooked it up. the receive and transmit are intermittant and doesnt seem to have any modge and low power on transmit. sideband at least appears to be somewhat working and the channel display is only partially working.

I E-mailed coppers about repairs and their sales Box is full so i forwarded it to the VP?
Oh well hopefuly I did better on the TRC-490 with the old minutman mic that I just won :)
should probably get it one way or another by next weekend........

Snapperhead, Those old trc-457 were good sounding radios way back when :) hope you get it. If you don't get a response from him pull his contact info from e-bay. If the info proves to be invalid they will yank him quick. you can also file a complaint as a non performing seller. Also http://www.basestealer.com has good links to follow up on.
