WICKEDWAYZ You will have to wait and see if their is anyone out there that has one of those radios, as for myself I do not know anything about them, again I suggest you ask TAZ about Melaka, he swears about them, they are a good looking radio, also the Cherokee, Don't just buy because you only have so much money, wait and save more money and get what you really want, or that is just my thinking.. lsb 27385 unit 536

Carl, in what price range are we talking here? Copper sells a variety of radios. The VR9000 is an all around good radio and at a good price. Check out Copper's home page and brouse around. We will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

Carl,

I realize you mentioned CB.

But!

My advice for a VERY GOOD all around radio would be the VOYAGE VR9000.

It is a 10 METER Mobile, but after being Modified for 11 Meter/CB and Peaked and Tuned this is one of the BEST Radio's on the Market.

It has a very reasonalbe price for all of the features that come with it.

Easy to use, VERY
Reliable, GREAT SOUNDING RADIO.

AM/SSB/FM/CW

They are on the MAIN COPPER page for $179.99
Have Copper Modify for 11 meter and Peak and Tune it for you for an extra $30.00 and you have ONE GREAT RADIO!

Please check the link below:
http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodE50-00021+

If this might be a little high also check out the Texas Ranger TR-696F Mobile.

http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodE00-07004+

It's a 40 Channel AM/SSB Mobile with a very good price on it.

These are both good radios, and I own/use and have sold many of the VR9000's and I have had NO problems at all with them.

The one comment that we are always getting on the VR9000 is that, IT IS LOUD and CLEAR!

As for Prices, COPPER's are very reasonable.

1st Choice VOYAGE VR9000.
2nd Choice TR-696F

wicked wayz.. hey man what is wrong with a washington? through personal experiance i have had lots of washingtons and with a little money put into them and the mods done right ya need nothin else! i used to have a washington with a supertalk installed, the clarifier clipped with a super swing diode and a ten k know. and a crystal channel conversion with a ten khz jump switch installed. now all the mods costed about 130-150 dollars but i would not have traded it for a melaka that is for sure.. audio wise, well it is hard to compete with the old washingtons that is for sure and the only thing you are lacking then is fm. i get alot of time in talking dx and probably about the most run radio i hear run is washingtons.. ask em.lol they will tell ya. well just my opinion, just hindsight is better than forsight and have been at the spot you are and got a radio i thought was better and it was nothin of the sort. well take care 123upper michigan

Can't get Washingtons new anymore, otherwise that is a great suggestion. I like the magnum 257 mobile for a good starter radio. I think it is comparable to the voyage vr-9000 in terms of price and performance. The vr9000 is more "cb"-like, while the magnum is more of a ham rig. You can't go wrong with either. If you want a type-accepted legal CB, the copper's price on the tr696f right now is outstanding. NICE radio for the $$!!

I bought a new GALAXY DX33HML, after the purchase and a hour of trying to get the radio to work, i was informed the radio had to be converted over. Is this a expensive process or worth it? thought about returning for a 959. any comments helpful.

Maverick 24A. is this a good radio for 11 meter? How does it compare to the Ranger RCI 2970? Pulling in the signal is my main objective. I like to hear what's going on down the road. and now for the big question. What is the best radio out there that can be purchased new?

NO NO WAY and dont let anyone tell you diffrent
It covers 50-54 mhz all modes and does it VERY well. You must also have a no-code or higher ham ticket to use it its the cheapest and BEST way to get on 6 meters!

Speaking of 6 DONT BUY a SWAN 250 they were Poor radios 30 years ago and OLD Poor and the heath 6 meter radio are rare and very over priced.
Now a GOOD mid 70's radio is the Yaseu FT-620 or FT-625 but again rare. Ten-Tec makes a transverter to go from 2 meters to 6 and a 6 meter FM kit. The ranger is a best buy if you want 6 it should be high on your list .... give santa a few extra cookies see if he will leave one!

Free owners manuals for Ranger's radios in PDF format. They print out as good or better quality (depending on your printer) as the manual that comes with the radio.

Are you interested in 6 meters, Skip? It is a fun band. It seems folks decide to get their tech ticket and enjoy it. I also hear many general, advanced and extra hams. A couple local guys have helped me set up my SSTV and PSK software. I haven't met a snooty 6 meter operater yet, either.

Great for mobile operation. The equivalent antenna on 6 is half the size as one for CB. A quarter wave whip is 53 to 57 inches, depending on whether you talk on the SSB or FM part of the band. A bunch of folks around Middle GA use a halo antenna on their mobile called a saturn or something. They talk SSB flatside in the mobile.

I'm going on and on not even knowing if you're interested in 6 meters, so I'm out.

The radios i have r the rci2950 old and the president hr2510 of which both r modified for 11meters but im kinda wondering whats the difference between the ranger2950dx and the ordinary 2950.Does the dx type goes beyond the 26.000mhz? u know like down into 24mhz or 25 mhz? And by the way the hr2510 does a great job for me in the SSB.Do u guys hang around the 27.555usb freq??

skip some of the 2650dx go down to 21 but if your not a ham why do you need to be there? And if you want to be buy a dx-70 and mod it it will go from 1.7 to 30 non-stop for $700.

As for mods it should be close to the galaxy 88
the only info i found is as follows " there are 4 resisters near the front to the right side of the radio that kept the radio from going 25.615 to 28.305 remove the resisters and the frequencies are expanded. " O as for shiping i live in tampabay and that about the same as most of tx from copper .... copper gets 4**** for shiping never had a box take more than 6 days!
