I just opened up my kl-40 amp and I can't seem to find any wire for the conversion.somebody please point me in the right direction

No trouble. Some of them came through with the center conductor to the SO-29 disconnected. If you bought it here it should be fine.

thanks for the help steve.I do have one more question.Will this amp operate on 27mhz without any modifications?

It will operate fine as long as both your feed wires going to the SO239's are soldered in.
BE AWARE this amp only requires about .75 (that's 3/4) of 1 (one) watt for AM input, about 12w SSB input.
