Radio 1.5w carrier.
Final coax from amp to antenna 12-15' of Times LMR 240 or similar power handling.
Alternator should be 125a or more.
Reflection should be below 10w.
At least 4ga feed wire for hot and ground.

If your reflection is at 10w or less and you can hold 14v under carrier of 300w, you should be doing about 1kw peak watts. Not every wattmeter will be accurate, so get the reflection down and work on your charging system so you can hold the volts and you will be producing the numbers despite what your wattmeter reads.

The Loss at 27 Mhz is very low with both cables. If you are running over 150 feet then yes it will be slightly better.

In a 15-18ft run of 8x compared to LMR240 you can see as much as a 50% drop in reflected power. Whether that's velocity factor, shielding, heavier center conductor, or higher power handling ability, I'm not sure. On several installs where ops were running 1kw amps with rg8x, the starting reflect was 2-10w and after changing to the LMR240 typically I see a 50% or more drop in reflect.

BTW, LMR240 is rated at 1.1kw continuous, Belden rg8x is rated at 300w continuous. (meaning RMS)

My Belden book must be wrong , at 15 feet there is a .002 dB difference in loss. That is null and you would never be able to see that. I will call Belden Monday and ask what the deal is..

Believe me, I won't argue what the mfr specs are by any means....but I can tell you in physical application the reflection went down with the higher grade coax.
