Buckshot,
run the ground to the battery. Running it to the frame could cause a groundloup or RF feed back..which will make your radio squel and make alot of other funny noises which can cause real problems with the system..

Power wise, the battery ground is certainly the best. RF wise, the chassis is better. The antenna counterpoise (ground plane) is the chassis (or body) of the vehicle, not the battery, right?

I highly suggest both grounds. Don't worry about 'RF loops'. No such thing unless you use a magnet mount antenna.

Buckshot,

Something that has been over looked in this discussion is that the battery acts as a filter. Thus reducing unwanted electrical noises i.e. ignition, fuel pump, etc.
Yes, it is important that the body of the vehical be included in the ground circuit. This is done by attaching a good ground strap from Battery to frame, body and motor. Remember that many engines sit on rubber engine mounts. This insulator must be over come as well as the body mounts.

Don't know about short, but the longer the leads the fatter they gotta be.I know a guy that runs a little 1000 and he has single-ought power and ground with a filter cap half way inbetween,er thats what he calls it anyway.

my amp is grounded thru seat bolt and it works fine but when i run ground to the battery the radio would bleed thru my stereo and lights on my dash would come on when i keyed up like the check engine and low oil, high temp lites also according to my meter i lost about 150 watts so i put mine back to seat bolt this is just what seems to work best for my setup
