Any tips on converting(is it even possible??) a KL40, 60 or 200p to 6m? I hooked up a KL40 to a 6m transverter once and got some substantial output, but not sure how clean. Unfortunately, blew the amp up on another radio before I got to do further 6m testing. |

I have been working on this very same project. Basicly, its all in the impedence. The input impedance of the SD1446 if only 1 ohm @ 50 mhz. That means you would need to bring the 50ohm impedence down to 1 ohm so that you can get the maximum output. Some amps already have this setup. By the way, it may work just like it is to a point, you just may not get the maximum output.
Another issue is the Bias/ Feed back circuit simply sizing the fuse, and running your negative straight to your emitters will control the current through the Transistor.
Now, for the ClassB part, you should nto have to change that resistor Value going to ground off you base. ClassA However, you may have to change your voltage regulation coming from the positive side of the Base, which is you bias. What I would do is replace the fixed resister coming from your voltage regulation circuit with a variable pot, and just adjust it till you get the desired effect. The only other thing is filtering, which you can use an external filter if you wish.
Many amps like the Boomer, Palomars, and some of the KLV amps have the SD1446 transistors im them. Thses transistors are tested up to 90 mhz, and are build for 50 mhz.
I will have one done shortly, and will put the conversion on the web.

phineas, add the ferrite core of the transformers saturating at 50mhz to your list of problems. this material is only designed for 1-35mhz operation. |

Hang tite fellas, I was on a project that had me out of town. I have the amp apart, and the project is rolling. Even solved the matching network problem. Will keep you posted real soon.
