Luckyman,

You could use the lighter plug, but it's better to hardwire the thing. You can attach the (+) to the fusebox and run the (-) to a seatbolt or something similar. Or you can run the radio right to the battery as well. Just make sure the (+) side is fused regardless.

Steve,
If I run the radio also to the battery, will I get less noise then hooking it up to a lighter plug? Is it better to place the fuse close to the battery or next to the radio? I have been learning alot from this forum, thanks for every ones help!

From past experience, I had a connex 3300 HP, and the thing wanted a battery ground, otherwise it fed back through the talk back and was very annoying, you had to turn the talk back off to just use the crazy thing. Good Luck

i wouldnt use the lighter plug it will work but id rather use the fuse block for the sterio. its got some noise filtering in it and will give ya not as much motor noise ect as the lighter plug.
or better still to the battery its self.

the lighter plug does have some voltage drop and is a problem on radios like my 2 meter kenwood at 50 watts and im sure other radios above the 5 watt cb range sometimes you can get to the wires of the plug and install a molex connector and plug into that on 2 meters i ran my heath 100 watt amp for years on these wires word to the wise FUSE EVERYTHING in the 1970's i had a heath amp for 2 meters BURN UP under the dash on the inter state when your on a bridge at 55 mph its no fun to have smoke comming from under your radio the problem was i tried to save .3v of drop accross a fuse and damn near lost my car
